The Bon Odori dances were originally dances to commemorate the ancestors at the Obon festival in late summer. They are cheerful group round dances with simple movements.The Japanese-German Bon-Odori Dance Circle Association (Nichi-Doku Bon-Odori Kai e.V.) has existed in Frankfurt since 2011.It was founded on the occasion of 150 years of Japanese-German friendship and the tsunami and earthquake disaster in north-east Japan.The association has set itself the goal of promoting friendship between the people of the two countries through Japanese summer dances.At the Main Matsuri, all visitors are invited to dance Bon-Odori together with the members.
